Warehousing Mobile Computing 2020

Microsoft Corp. plans to "sunset" its support for Windows CE and Embedded Handheld operating systems (OS) in 2020. Do you have a plan? What are other logistics professionals doing? This recent article by DC Velocity outlines the results of a survey to answer this question.

As expected, the majority of users are using Microsoft Windows OS. Going forward, 56% of users plan to add more Google Android devices. Perhaps since Android is the world's most popular OS, easy to use, will continue to be supported and has been modified with greater functionality needed to support the corporate environment.

Another interesting survey result was that for handling equipment needs for temp workers during peak times, the majority of respondents indicated they would deploy excess legacy devices held in reserve versus allowing the use of consumer-grade devices. This is an indication that users are perhaps taking into account the associated costs of adding and supporting consumer-grade devices in the corporate environment.
